My kids ask for this one at bedtime constantly, and the part where they dress the scarecrow in the parents' old clothes always gets a giggle. The French is simple enough that my seven-year-old follows along without me translating every line.

The illustrations of Paul and Suzanne building the scarecrow from their parents' old clothes are simple but full of detail, and my son noticed the bird's expression on every page. It's a sweet French story that's easy enough for him to follow along with. We've read it at bedtime four nights in a row

My kids loved the twist of using old clothes for the scarecrow, and the simple French sentences made it perfect for their practice.
