De ijsbeer

I read this aloud to my kids and they actually stayed quiet the whole time, which never happens. The way it weaves real facts about the polar bear's hunting and swimming into such lyrical French is lovely.

The poetic phrasing makes the facts about the polar bear's hunting and swimming abilities actually stick in my head, which never happens with dry nature texts. I've been reading a page a night to keep up my French, and the vocabulary feels just challenging enough without being frustrating.

I picked this up to brush up on my French and ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting. The poetic descriptions of how polar bears survive the Arctic winter are gorgeous without being too difficult for an intermediate learner.
